A Very Thankful Chaperone

I had the honor and pleasure to spend time with eight capable and dedicated NOLA students on Friday Night.  The task was preparing dinner for approximately 60 people who would come to Wheat Community Kitchen for dinner.  Students planned, shopped, prepared and served food.

It was amazing to watch them work together.  They saw the various tasks that needed to be done and stepped in to fill all necessary roles: salad maker, chicken preparer, brownie mixer, water boiler for pasta, and the list goes on.  When they finished one job they immediately went to work with someone who needed help with a different job.  They were respectful to Tina, staff member, who was extremely helpful in lighting the gas stove and providing the timing for serving and preparing take home meals.

The compliments from the staff and people eating at Wheat were overwhelming.  Everyone was impressed with how good the food was and how these young people were sincerely enjoying working together to prepare it.  Many people and groups prepare meals at Wheat and our students stood out for their earnest caring and dedication.

Pictures show how much fun it was working together, but not the level of commitment and hard work that goes into a community service event like this one.  I am extremely proud of these young people and the program we have at NMRHS.

Thank you to Kevin L., Sheridan, Evelyn, Emily L., Matt D., Cassidy, Vicky, and Liz for including me in their group and making me feel right at home.
